TF on Street Children and IJWA celebrate Children's Month

This year's Children's Month celebration will be jointly spearheaded by the city's Task Force on Street Children (TFSC) and the Iloilo Juvenile Welfare Association (IJWA). The event will have a week-filled activity that will be actively participated by students from public and private schools, and some street children as previously identified by the task force.

TFSC and IJWA chair Rosalie S. Treñas said that the partnership was forged to ensure the success of the celebration.
Treñas also mentioned that the celebration will kick-off with a mass on October 6 at the San Jose Parish and will be followed by a motorcade by the participating agencies all around the city. There will also be a program at 11 o'clock in the morning on the same day at SM City.

Some of the activities for the week-long celebration also include the Pinoy Olympics on October 8 to be participated by 200 street children and 30 boys from IJWA. They will have various games and relays at La Paz Gym with prizes for the champion, second and third places for every activity.

On Sunday, October 9, there will be a values formation seminar for parents of the street kids with the major objective of minimizing the incidence of children found loitering the streets.
There will also be a talent competition on October 10 at SM City featuring students from various schools and a cultural contest on October 11 also at the same mall.

Meanwhile, Treñas thanked all those who helped organize the event and all those who took the time to participate in the celebration. She said that the event provided a venue for street children and other youth to show their various talents and encouraged these youngsters to engage in worthwhile activities.
