City gov't places things, people in order for Dinagyang '06
Things in their proper places, people in their best behavior and attitude.
Dinagyang '06 Executive Director Mr. Ben Jimena said that part of preparing Iloilo City for the Dinagyang Festival is putting ordinances into effect and sanctioning violators, as well as putting things in their proper places.
Jimena came up with an action plan dubbed "Iloilo Squeaks for Dinagyang" saying that the concept is complementary to all the other preparations being undertaken for the festival. It involves cleaning, beautifying and putting things in order so that both residents and tourists will feel comfortable and safe, especially during the festivities.
He further said that "Iloilo Squeaks for Dinagyang" is intended to showcase the fact that Ilonggos can be well disciplined people as far as observing the laws is concerned, and that they are also very cooperative with the local government.
The project is a cooperative effort of all Task forces/Groups on Environment in the city, the Philippine National Police, the business sector, schools and the barangays.
With the implementation of the project, all the environment-related ordinances in the city will be enforced, like Anti-Jaywalking, Anti-Smoking, Anti-Littering, and Traffic Management, with close supervision by the respective Task Forces.
The city government has identified various implementing units with their corresponding heads: Clean and Green Task Force - Marilen Locsin; Solid Waste Management, Marissa Segovia; CENRO - Noel Hechanova; General Services Office - Ninda Atinado; City Engineers' Office - Tom Amatorio; Iloilo Business Club - Tony Jon; Iloilo City Public and Private Schools - Erlinda Gencaya; SK - Stevie Ray Abitang; Association of barangay Captains - Irene Ong.
Included in the activities scheduled for implementation on January 7, are the cleaning and beautifying of city streets, repairing parade routes and sidewalks, apprehend violators of city ordinances on environmental cleanliness, like those urinating just anywhere in public paces, walls and posts, trees and motor vehicles, smoking, jaywalkers, and even drivers who are not in proper attires (sandos, slipper, shorts).
Jimena also encouraged schools, business establishments and government and private offices along the Dinagyang routes to spruce up their vicinities with festive decors and keep them spic and span. (PIA 6/ESSubong)
