What you need to know about Rotts and Kathy's Precious Kennel
Phil Grand Champ Kicker of
Rott's Haven "Holyfield Sr."
They're often seen in thriller movies. Their fierce look, size and color often succeed in instilling fear to people. They are thought to be hostile and aggressive towards people and dogs. They are one of the dog breeds that make some people raise their eyebrows if a dog is indeed a man's best friend. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Poor Rottweillers. Victims of an exaggerated claim.
But why the misconception about the Rotts?
Well, it won't really take a lot of brains to answer that question. In retrospect, the Rottweillers gained the peak of their popularity in the United States in the 1980s. Anything or anyone popular always subject itself or himself to scrutiny of prying eyes. One wrong move and the pierce made by a needle becomes a hole caused by a bomb. It goes without saying that the present misconception about Rottweillers came about due to isolated cases of Rott aggressions that were blown out of proportion. The truth is, Rotts are very gentle and loyal---if brought up and taken cared of properly.
They rank no. 8 in the hierarchy of intelligence among the scores of breed of canine. Thanks to this, they are often trained to do Search And Rescue (SAR) during calamities and disasters. Masters often bank their personal, their family and property's protection on these huge and strong but calm giants. As the standard of the Rott breed states "The Rottweiler is basically a calm, confident and courageous dog with self-assured aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships. He is self-confident . . . He has an inherent desire to protect home and family, and is an intelligent dog . . ." And mind you, they are also often used for therapy work like alleviating depression.
Just like most dogs, Rottweillers can give an unwavering loyalty once they have established who their masters are. Their loyalty can be earned when you give them love, care, attention and respect. Respect for their needs, respect for their wants and respect for their personality.

Since Rottweillers belong to the working class of dogs---just like the Dobermans, Boxers, Siberian Huskies and Bullmastiffs---they need to be "worked". Work can either be as complicated as SAR, protection or therapy, or as simple as running, walking and playing fetch. Given this, it's needless to say that Rotts are not an ideal pet for everyone because of their specific needs. If you really want to have a pet dog but don't have the resources or facilities to meet the Rott's needs, settle for other breeds instead.
However, if you are a dog lover and think you'd be able to give the basic needs of the Rotts, it's high time to visit KATHY'S PRECIOUS KENNEL in 8th Street, Lawaan Village, Brgy. Balantang, Jaro, owned by couple Kathy Villalon-Cinco and Andy Cinco who are certified dog aficionados.
You want a purebred and quality Rott, get it from one of the best. Kathy's Precious Kennel just happens to be home to the only two Philippine Grand Champion Rotts in the city, "Holyfield Sr." and "Holyfield Jr." . . . err, what's that again? Philippine Grand Champion? What does it mean? It is a title bestowed on dogs upon winning in conformation or specialty shows. In the Philippines, a dog can earn three different titles. The first title they can earn is the Philippine Championship. After that, they can campaign for the Philippine Grand Championship, and then on to the ultimate goal, the Philippine Hall Of Fame. Got it?

Impressed with the high quality Rotts of KPK? But that's not all. Excluding the two Philippine Grand Champs, they also boasts of the best American and European breed lines. They have a bitch, that's what a female canine is called, silly, that traces her lines from the famed Lakeview Kennel of U.S.A. Another prized bitch is a direct import from Romania. Jacqueline v Hause Bucur-Ro or Onda is sired by one of Europe's top Rotts and the no. 1 European stud of 2003, Fax Von Tengen. A newcomer in their kennel is Energo vh Beracah who has a father that comes from Germany's famous Neubrand Kennel and a mother who is a product of one of Hungary's top kennel, Von Hause Sommer Kennel. Another one or two additions are in the pipeline which will surely complement and improve their present gene pool.
Now, you may ask, what are they trying to achieve with this buying and importation of pedigreed Rotts from other foreign kennels? Simple. They just want to improve and conserve the standard of the breed. Proof of this is their very own Kathy's Precious Norske, a four-month old puppy of Holyfield Jr. and Onda, who made quite a stir in the last Negros Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show. He's not only one of the youngest to win the Best Baby Puppy in Show (BBPIS) award, Norske swept all but one BBPIS at stake under four different judges. KPK doesn't only have champions, they breed one.
