Search for ten outstanding students of the Philippines on
Every year, outstanding students across the region are given the chance for their achievements to be recognized. Areas that are taken into consideration include superior academic performance, remarkable leadership skills, altruistic community involvement and praiseworthy personal values. This is made possible through the prestigious Search for the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines - Region VI, an annual youth program of the Rfm Foundation in cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education and other participating sponsors. This year Gerry Roxas Foundation has forged partnership with RFM Foundation, making TOSP-Region VI a premier outstanding students' search in the region.
TOSP embarked on a regional search in 1994 although it was launched on June 19,1961. Notably, TOSP has produced many awardees that became great national figures such as the late Senator Raul Roco, Ayala Foundation President Vicky Garchitorena and TV personality Ricardo "Dong" Puno, Jr., to name a few.
To help mobilize this year's search, the TOSP-Region VI Regional Executive Committee was formed, headed by Mr. John Iver Z. Solidum III, a TOSP National Awardee in 2002, as the Chairman. Ms. Nona Fernandez and Ms. Lorna Ctedral, representatives from CHED Region VI, serve as Program Administrators while Primitivo Paypon, a TOSP National Awardee in 2004, is head of the Program Standards Compliance. Ms. Leonor Palmares, a TOSR champion for several years, is now in charge of Resource Mobilization while Orlan Nugpo and Julius Alegrado, both TOSP Alumni, head the Student Relations. Gerry Roxas Foundation, led by Ms. Annette Villaruz, aptly heads the Community Mobilization Committee.
True to its vision of expanding the program to all colleges and universities, TOSP-Region VI collaborates with CHED Region VI in massive information campaign in the search for the region's brightest. Deadline of application and nomination was moved to March 10, 2006 with the screening slated on March 18. From the pool of nominees, finalists will be drawn and they will have the rare chance of participating in a one-and-a-half day workshop and to be recognized during the awards night.
The awarding ceremony is tentatively scheduled on April 9,2006. Venue is yet to be announced. The Regional winners in this year's search will compete against other regional awardees across the country in the search for the 2006 Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) this June in Malacanang.
