4 yr old boy rescues 2 yr old brother as uncle brutally kills, sets grandma on fire
Two youngsters survived the rage and rampage of a 31 year-old uncle who brutally killed and set on fire their 67 year-old grandmother. As such, charges of parricide and arson are being readied against the attacker whom family members believed had an episode of nervous breakdown. Mentally unstable or not, the cases will be lodged, surviving kins vowed.
The victim, Florencia Gelpo was set on fire by the suspect identified by authorities as Larry Gelpo. When police and fire officials responded on the crime scene in Barangay East Valencia, Buenavista, Guimaras, the hapless victim's four-year old grandson tagged his Uncle Larry as the culprit.
Prior to setting his mother on fire, the suspect was seen by the youngster to have mauled her first, stabbed in the body and later hit on the head with a stone. She was believed to be alive still when set on flames.
Neighbors failed to rescue the victim with the fire spreading in seconds and leaving the Gelpo family hut totally burned.
The four year-old also told authorities that he was ordered by his uncle to stab his two-year old sibling who began to wail upon seeing his uncle go wild. With Larry's ire focused on his mother, the four year-old grabbed his two year-old brother and rushed to a neighbor who then alerted barangay officials and the town's police.
It was not clear what triggered the attack. The suspect is now under tight security inside the Buenavista lock-up cell as government social workers come in to help the two young survivors.
Locals began to make rounds in the neighborhood in an effort to raise financial and material help for the victim's family.
