65 City Hall employees in 'bad debtors' list
Iloilo City -- A top official of a government bank has now sought immediate action of Mayor Jerry Treñas over unpaid salary loan of 65 Iloilo City Government employees.
Incurring over P530,000 in past dues that represent the principal amount only, Aida Bacaling, Operations Officer of the Development Bank of the Philippines moved to seek the Mayor's intervention.
The unpaid loans, Bacaling explained, have been in arrears since January of this year, one matter that DBP believes the Mayor is well aware of.
"As a result, many city hall employees whose accounts are in current status are affected and thus cannot renew their loan," the lady bank official added. The Mayor's Office has since initiated collection activities to reduce said past due however City Hall insiders told The News Today (TNT) the effort has yet to yield significant results.
To further speed up the collection, the DBP thru Bacaling furnished the Mayor the list of the 'bad debtors' and corresponding amount loaned.
"The list of past due will assist your office to monitor which and who has not updated their accounts while the Billing Statement would guide your payroll officers as well as your accounting staff to deduct correctly the amortization due the Bank," the letter for Mayor Trenas went. "We are also furnishing the various units of the city government the attached Billing Statement so that correct deductions are made and strictly implemented to enable us achieve our goal of reducing the past due of the Iloilo City Government."
