Antique provincial gov't donates improvised booms for Guimaras

As a show of support to the oil spill devastated Guimaras province, the provincial government of Antique turned over on Wednesday, September 6, truckloads of improvised oil spill booms to be used in blocking the oil slick from further reaching the shores.
Commodore Leonard Tirol, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) District Commander, said 457 pieces of improvised booms each measuring 10 feet long were initially delivered last Wednesday at the Muelle Loney port. Tirol said the Antique provincial government actually committed a total of 1,000 pieces of improvised booms. The remaining booms would be delivered in the coming days.
The improvised booms were made of rice straws wrapped into bamboo poles with fish nets.
Tirol said half of the delivered improvised booms were given to Zarraga town through Mayor Gregorio Brazas to be used in protecting the Jalaur River from the oil slick which has been reported to have reached several coastal areas of Iloilo province.
The improvised booms from Antique were made possible with the support of Governor Salvacion Perez, Provincial Administrator Engr. Manuel Salazar, Philippine Army Commandant Major Monleon, Adventist Community Service Association through Lt. Senior Grade Tony Hosenilla, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary 606 Squadron of Antique, Capt. Edgar Reyes and Capt. Infante, Antique Provincial Engineering Office, Antique Provincial Social Welfare Office, Kabalikat Civicom headed by Darcy Bungay, Chief Petty Officer Danilo Camponion, Commodore Tirol, and 601 Squadron PCGA under Capt. Nilo Sazon.
