Treñas ready to face off with Malabor in '07

City Mayor Jerry Treñas welcomes the plan of former Mayor Mansueto Malabor to run for reelection in the mayoralty position in next year's election. Treñas and Malabor are former allies when the former first ran as mayor of the city in 2001.
Treñas said it is the right of every person to run for a position. He added that it is even better as the people will have a choice on who to vote. At this time, the chief executive could not say on whether Malabor is a threat in his bid for a third and last term.
It can be noted that Malabor's machinery helped Treñas first won the mayoralty race. The former complemented the elite image of Treñas being known with a masa image.

When Treñas ran for his second term, he joined the group of former Councilor Raul Gonzalez, Jr. who ran for a congressional position. At that time, Malabor also ran for congressman and eventually lost to Gonzalez who is that time a candidate of the administration.
The chief executive also belied reports that Gonzalez's mother Dr. Pacita will also run against him in the 2007 mayoralty race. Treñas said there is no truth to the rumor. "I am in constant communication with the Gonzalezes and there are no talks about it," said Treñas.
