Why do people steal?
Is stealing inherited or a way of life? If a person has not been taught that stealing is a sin, then this habit of getting money, precious jewelries, and other valuable materials from people and establishments is ignorant of the Word of God. "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil" 1 Timothy 6:10.
To people, particularly government personnel and officials who are aware that stealing is a sin as this is taught in churches, schools and by parents and kins and continue to steal, their life here on earth is happily abundant but in the great beyond, they are doomed to destruction. God handed the 4th commandment to Moses in Mount Sinai, "Thou shall not steal", Exodus 20:15. "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord", Romans 6:23.
The very poor steal out of poverty and difficult living. The rich corrupt government officials steal in order to gain abundance of life. In private businesses, stealing is not rampant as in government offices. Government stealers are worse since they stash away the people's money not only in millions but by trillions!
The Philippines is supposed to be the only Christian nation in Asia and yet she is No. 4 "most corrupt" country in Asia if not in the whole world today. Two graft agencies in the government have been established since 1990, The Ombudsman or Tanodbayan and Malacañang's own anti-graft body. The Christian value of honesty is most admired by people around the world. The scripture says, "An honest man is the noblest creation of God."
"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and losses his own soul?" Matt. 16:26, Mark 8:36. Since time immemorial, grafters in government have stolen from government coffers over P54 trillions according to a newspaper report. This huge money stolen from government is enough to build 100,000 classrooms, 5,000 bridges, 10,000 homes for the poor and other infrastructures. For example, a Customs, a DPWH, BIR, DA, LTO, LTFRB illegally accumulated P1 billion each during hid government service and when he retires undiscovered by the people's graft bodies, he lives like a king until his earthly tent is demolished, can he/she bring a single centavo to his tomb? The inheritors of the "blood money" may or may not return the "blood money", many say that a bad omen may henceforth hound the inheritors and their conscience will be bothered. Death is imminent!
Thieves in government do not really fear God. They know the existence of God but still continue on sinning and stealing. What is the difference between a stealer and a kleptomaniac? Many jokingly said that the "difference is the same". Usually, kleptomaniacs are well-to-do people but they love to pick choice items in department stores because they are neurotic. But government officials who steal the people's money by the millions know it that stealing is a sin since most of them are professing Christians but are committing economic sabotage. But why do they still steal and commit sin and eventually land in the eternal lake of fire? Pentecostal and Evangelical Christians teach sinners that they should confess their sins before God and sin no more.
Jesus told a Samaritan woman who was caught sinning, "Go and sin no more, " not so with Filipino government officials. As they continue stealing government money and live happily while here on earth and feed their children with stolen money. Shame on you sick and corrupt government officials! Look at the millions of Filipinos die of hunger and suffer in poverty because you stole the government funds supposed to be given to them in the from of foods, medicines, housing and employment. If you die now, where will your soul go, hell or heaven?
