DSWD reports status of Kalahi-CIDSS sub-projects
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the region reported that the implementation of sub-projects under the pro-poor program of the government has been on-going, with some completed.
Social Welfare Asst. Director Joel Galicia said these projects which are located in Iloilo and in Capiz, consist of water, health, and post harvest facilities and road infrastructures.
Among the projects completed included Barangay Health Station in Macalbang, Concepcion, Water system, Level II in Binabaan, Armada, in Lambunao, post harvest facilities and ware house in Caraudan, Janiuay, farm implements in Brgy. Bo, Calinog, bridges in Buwang, Malag-it,Lambunao, Bgy. Gama Pequeño, Calinog, and Janguslob, in Dumarao, Capiz, while 30 fishing boats with 90 fish shelters were given to fisherfolk in Bgy. Buaya, Carles, Iloilo.
As of February 2007, project coverage of the Kalahi-CIDSS has a total of 16 municipalities and 607 barangays.
For Phase I of the project in Concepcion, Iloilo, cycle 1 has 22 sub-projects completed and fully operational, for cycle 2 there were eight sub-projects and for cycle 3, 11 sub-projects were completed and fully operational.
For Phase II involving 11 municipalities, of the targeted 514 sub-projects, 345 were completed; for Phase III which includes the municipalities of Cauayan, Negros Occidental, Dumarao and Maayon, out of 43 sub-projects, only 15 were completed.
For all the phases and cycles, total project cost in pesos is 666,254,225.55.
The KALAHI Regional Convergence Group is in the process of assessing accomplishments and impact of the projects under it. The member agencies, during their recent meeting, faces the challenge of reviewing framework to come up with indicators that would show that the poorest have really benefited from the projects as intended for them by the government.
