Gawad Kalinga project gets boost
Good news! More prominent families in Iloilo City expressed willingness to donate additional lots for the Gawad Kalinga (GK) project to accommodate the city's homeless families.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas said former Undersecretary Cornelio Hison as well as the Ledesma family have told him that they would donate lots for the GK project.
He said Hison wants to donate some two hectares of his property in Sooc, Arevalo. The property is near the present Smart/PLDT Uswag Village.
The other would-be donor is his classmate, a member of the Ledesma clan and is now based in the US. “He is asking me to check on the area as it needs an access road before any development could be made in the property,” Treñas said.
Treñas added, GK head Tony Meloto assured that he will look for more pledges in building the homes for the city's homeless.
The GK project is being implemented in the different parts of the country to address the housing needs of the poor. The same project is initiated by the Couples of Christ with the help of big business corporations and individuals.
Recently, the Lopez Group of Companies through its chair Oscar M. Lopez turned over 19 newly-completed units in Buntatala, Jaro. Said housing housing units are part of the the 144 GK houses committed by the the Lopez family which traces its roots in Iloilo.
