April is tax awareness month
Roxas City -- Various information dissemination activities are being lined up by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 72 to hype up the tax awareness campaign this April.
BIR RDO No. 72 Taxpayers Section Chief and Public Information Officer Ma. Gracia DC Balgos said these activities include a radio interview, motorcade, inter-agency networking, and hanging of streamers, among others.
"The District will also tap different religious organizations in the campaign," added Balgos.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo directed the month-long celebration since 2005 to increase revenue generation which is "urgently needed to finance and sustain vital economic and development programs of the government."
"The observance of Tax Awareness Month will be a step towards promoting, enhancing and instilling nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of taxes to our society, while at the same time, obtaining the support and commitment of the taxpaying public to help improve the tax collection of the country," stated President Arroyo's Proclamation No. 812.
Recently, BIR Revenue District Officer Eralen De Aro has called on taxpayers to file and pay correct taxes before the April 16, 2007 deadline of filing and paying 2006 income taxes to avoid inconvenience in complying with the tax obligations.
The appeal was also in consideration of the lack of manpower of the BIR to attend to the taxpayers' needs during the filing season, added De Aro.
Tax filing centers will also be set up by the RDO in selected areas aside from the banks which extended their commitment to support the collection of 2006 income taxes.
