PCA to put up coco bio-fuel plant in Capiz
The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Regional Office 6 is planning to put up a coco bio-fuel plant in Ivisan, Capiz by middle of this year in response to the growing demand for coco bio-fuel.
Regional Dir. Joey Cruz said that they have identified Ivisan, Capiz because of the big coconut tree population in the area as well as the presence of an oil mill.
The coco bio-fuel processing plant is also in response to the passage of the Bio-fuel law sponsored by now Senatorial candidate Miguel Zubiri requiring big oil companies like Petron, Caltex, Shell and others to mix one per cent of bio-fuel on their diesel products starting May 1 this year.
Cruz, however, said that the Flying V, another oil company, has already started to sell diesel mixed with bio-fuel and bio-fuel as additives on its gasoline stations here in Iloilo City in compliance to the law.
Cruz added the use of bio-fuel has many advantages like more mileage for vehicles, cleaner engine, and better efficiency.
It also complies with the Clean Air Act.
He admitted that they could not yet campaign for the massive use of bio-fuel because it is still on its experimental stage. It is also higher priced and there is still insufficient supply of coco oil.
