Aquaculture business forum set October 16-17
An Agree-Build-Organize-Transfer (ABOT) Aquaculture Business Forum will be held on October 16-17 at the Philippine Social Science Center in Diliman, Quezon City.
With this, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) Aquaculture Department (AQD) invites entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the aquaculture industry to this two-day event.
SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department is an intergovernmental regional organization mandated to conduct research, develop technologies, disseminate aquaculture information, and provide manpower skills by holding trainings in the farming of fishes, crustaceans, mollusks, and seaweeds for food, livelihood, equity and sustainable development since 1973. Science-based and environment-friendly technologies are continually verified and tested in the department to promote sustainable aquaculture development in Southeast Asia.
"Teaching people how to culture fish to secure food and livelihood beyond a lifetime" is the theme of the forum. This is in line with the Agriculture and Fisheries Week slated on October 1-5, 2007 and with the government's goal of increasing food production and livelihood generation through sustainable agriculture.
The forum will highlight amongst others the role and interests of the private sector as entrepreneurs and employment generators as it covers business aspects of aquaculture -business start-up pointers, competencies and risk management.
ABOT AquaNegosyo science-based aquaculture packages include hatchery, nursery, and grow-out operation of abalone, mudcrab, giant freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii), tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon); multi-species marine fish (grouper, milkfish, snapper, seabass); native (and African) catfish, tilapia and carp; and green water culture of milkfish, tiger shrimp and tilapia.
AQD specialists are expected to conduct lectures on sustainable aquaculture technologies of commercially viable species during the forum. Also, interested entrepreneurs will have the chance to hear some valuable information from agencies such as the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship; Philippine Emerging Start-ups Open (PESO); Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SET-UP) of DOST; and the Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development (BSMED) of DTI.
New aquaculture technologies from AQD will also be discussed such as seaweed tissue culture; and seahorse hatchery and grow-out culture. AQD's technical support program will be presented as well.
Due to limited seats, interested participants are requested to pre-register early. Registration fee is P3,500 per participant covering lunch, snacks and compilation of forum presentations.
