PIA's search for best performing advisers on
The Philippine Information Agency in Western Visayas is holding for the third time its Search for Best Performing Advisers '07 as its way of recognizing the school paper advisers' role in promoting development journalism in the schools.
The search is open to all college and high school paper advisers whose publications have participated in any of the Basic Journalism Seminar-workshops conducted by the PIA. The adviser himself/herself must have also participated in at least one of these trainings.
PIA Director Janet Mesa said through the years that the PIA has been conducting Journalism trainings, the school paper advisers have been perceived to be a potent influence in the growth of campus journalism.
The Search, Director Mesa said, is an incentive scheme designed by PIA VI, to highlight the time, effort and unwavering commitment of the paper advisers to responsible campus press.
The criteria/rules of the Search include the following: 1) the nominee must have served as school paper adviser, either for college or high school paper for the last two consecutive academic years as certified by the Dean, or principal or school head; 2) the nominee must be recommended by the Dean or Principal; 3) each publication is entitled to only one nominee; 4) the nominee must have participated in at least one Basic Journalism Seminar-Workshop; 5) only a nominee who has been included in the top 10 chosen by the Award Evaluation Committee can qualify as an awardee.
Each nominee must submit the following supporting documents: 1) 1 ID-sized picture attached to the Nomination form; 2) certification from the Dean or Principal that the nominee has served as paper adviser for the last consecutive years; 3) accomplished nomination form; 4) certificates of participation, recognition, awards received, related to campus journalism/media relations; 5) certificates of related trainings/seminars participated in; 6) list of the awards the publication/publication staff under the nominee has garnered; and, 7) an 8-paragraph feature on a certain theme.
