Ex-army gunned down
Police at Passi City are facing a blank wall on the identity of the gunman who shot and killed a retired soldier yesterday morning.
SPO1 Junito Limogmog of the Passi City police told The News Today that they have no leads yet on the identity nor motive behind the killing of 47-year-old Mariano Pablico, a retired Army master sergeant.
"The witnesses did not have a good look at the gunman. Everyone was busy starting their day that they only heard gunfire but did not take a good look at the killer," Limogmog said.
Although there were many people around, they were so busy with what they were doing that they failed to look at the face of the gunman, the police investigator said.
Pablico and his wife, Josephine, accompanied their seven-year-old son to school at the Passi 1 Central School at around 7:30 am. The wife walked with their son to the latter's classroom, while the victim stayed outside.
The gunman walked up to Pablico and shot him from behind using a .45 cal. pistol. The bullet entered from the back of the head and exited the forehead, Limogmog said. Pablico died on the spot. The gunman and his companion fled towards the direction of Calinog town onboard a motorcycle.
"We couldn't talk to the wife yet because she's still in a state of shock. So that's why our investigation hasn't revealed anything significant yet," Limogmog said. "We'll wait until the wife's condition improves."
