Whimsies of Trina Ascalon
"Whimsies", an exhibit at the UPV Gallery until November, is the first public exhibition of Trina Ascalon, an artist and businesswoman. It exudes vivacity of life through vivid colors and curious themes. The works express childlike fantasies and feminist propensity. They're playful, mischievous, and yes, whimsical.
Her favorite subjects are women and children. The eyes are arresting and depict deep emotions thus, giving the impression of mystery and mysticism. Her post modern works would appeal to the Gen X with their unique and eye catching hues.
Trina was born on Dec. 5, 1975 and is the daughter of Francisco Ascalon, a superb cartoonist and Cynthia Craig, an interior designer, culinary artist and bling-bling artist. Theirs is a family of artists, indeed. Her brother, Dennis, does local soap operas, radio disc jockeying and theater plays. Chad, who is still in college, shows potential in film making. Her sister, Marovi, is a doctor and expert in needle works. Another sister, Virna, inspires Trina in her artwork and is a good short story writer. Trina's children Joshua Pilip and Sofia Isabel are into inventing stuff, poetry and music, respectively.
