Negros Occ. allocates P40-M for palay farm production
BACOLOD CITY -- The Negros Occidental provincial government has allocated P40 million for the communal irrigation and support services for farmers to increase rice productivity in the farms.
Gov. Isidro Zayco said that the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) has so far identified 15 to 20 sites in the sugar-producing province to receive the P40 million for the irrigation project intended for palay production.
Zayco said provincial agriculturist Igmedio Tabianan is submitting the list of the sites they have identified for the final listing of recipients under the project.
"This is intended for making our province self-sufficient in rice in the coming years. This also compliments the programs of the Department of Agriculture (DA) to address the rice crisis in the country," the governor said.
Of the amount, P10 million is intended for farm inputs and P30 million will go for communal irrigation, Zayco added. (PNA)
