PURR
Freedom at SM City Iloilo
SM City Iloilo department officers
SM City Iloilo and the rest of the SM Supermalls celebrated the country's 110th independence with a very colorful and one-of-a-kind funfare.
To start the celebration, SM City's management, staff and tenants dressed in their modern Filipiniana best and paid homage to the Philippine flag in a flag raising ceremony at 9 am. It was followed by the release of red, blue and white colored balloons and some doves.
Inspiring words were given by SM City Mall Manager Girlie Libo-on and Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog. Libo-on enjoined everyone to be proud of being Filipinos. She cited some bits and pieces of history when independence was garnered 110 years ago in Kawit, Cavite. Meanwhile, Mabilog encouraged everyone to be proud of the values that Filipinos have and not advertise the negatives. This way, national pride is maintained.
The rest of the day witnessed short plays by selected high school and elementary schools in different mall hallways. This added color to the already lively atmosphere at the mall. Indeed, as SM City Iloilo said, "Exercise your freedom to shop with us."
