Girls having fun with hiphop
Top performer of the month.
Girls were having the time of their lives. So, were the men and children during the Girls Just Wanna Have Fun dance contest elimination held at Robinsons Place Iloilo last July 20, 2008.
Six groups composed of charming young ladies who showed how well they can handle hip hop dancing.
They were judged according to choreography, difficulty of steps, mastery of steps, overall impact and costume. Judging wasn't an easy task for me, dance expert Romy Delaliarte and Christ Deliver Dance Group's Tyrone Talamera. One group synchronized well but fell short on the difficulty of steps or the costume. Some excelled in the difficulty of steps yet there seems no be no team work or the music wasn't audible enough, and other stuff. But in the end, it was group three in their all-red jerseys and fun moves that became the performer of the month.
Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is a project of Robinsons Place Iloilo, with John Patrimonio Cortel of JPC Productions organizing it. JPC Productions is a big name when it comes to discovering musical talents and having groups organized. Cortel is the man behind other dance contests like Dance Showdown, which is having its grand finals on August and Migs Variety Show, which is a venue for the young to enhance their talent in singing and dancing.
Intermission number.
Speaking of hiphop, here's a trivia. This movement started in New York in the 1970s and was associated with gang wars and violence. But hiphop is not that bad. For as years passed, teens used this genre to express their opinions on issues like human rights, conservation and education, among others.
So, if ever you've got that talent in you, use it not only to keep yourself fit but to push a good cause.
