Iloilo BHWs lobby for Christmas bonus
The Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in Iloilo province are making sure that they will receive the P2,000 Christmas bonus this December by starting to lobby for it with Gov. Niel D. Tupas Sr. and the members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP).
Merlyn Figueroa, the provincial president of about 8,000 BHWs, said that they have gone to the office of the governor on Monday and will attend the SP session Tuesday to lobby for their Christmas bonus.
During his meeting with the BHW officials, Gov. Tupas reassured them of his approval for their bonus. He also encouraged the group to lobby with Vice Gov. Rolex T. Suplico and the other SP members.
According to the governor, he was having a hard time getting through the requests for funding because the 2008 annual budget has not yet been approved and that the provincial government still operates on a reenacted budget.
The giving of Christmas bonus to BHWs and the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) and Day Care Workers, numbering around 12,000, started during the Tupas administration. (PNA)
