2 more Ilonggo crew of sunken fishing vessel rescued in Indonesia
Continued search and rescue operations over the week in Indonesia resulted to the rescue of two more Ilonggo crew members of a sunken Indonesian-owned fishing vessel.
The good news was relayed to Bombo Radyo Iloilo by Vicky Ganancial Tamagos of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. Vicky's brother, Silverio Ganancial of Barangay Oracon Sur, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras was among the first confirmed fatality. Her husband, 54 year-old Juanito Tamagos, is the latest to be rescued along with Arnold Geregale also of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
Earlier, The News Today (TNT) in a report confirmed that among those missing with the duo was the elder Mandy Geregale, father of Arnold.
Hopes remain high of yet more successful rescues almost a week since the incident occurred. Alongside the elder Geregale, missing as well are at least ten more crewmen, all of whom are Indonesian nationals.
The accident happened hours after the fishing vessel, MV Eable sailed off Jakarta, Indonesia last Friday and met heavy rains and strong winds.
The family got the call from the vessel owner who assured of full search and rescue operations thereafter.
Accounts of surviving crew disclosed that Silverio Ganancial jumped overboard minus a lifejacket. Other crew members managed to put on lifevests as call for help over the radio was made.
A nearby vessel responded and first to arrive in the accident site as government rescue ships followed within hours.
Tamagos said the family got the call Saturday from the owner of the ill-fated fishing vessel she referred to only as one "Mr. Ong."
To recall, Silverio Ganancial was then tasked by Ong's company to hire Filipino workers that will complete the crew of fishing vessel MV Eable.
He managed to put together a team of 13 all-Filipino crew that included father and son, Arnold and Mandy Geregale of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
