ICPO seeks SP endorsement over request for patrol cars
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has sought the endorsement of the Sangguniang Panglungsod over its request from PNP National Headquarters to provide them with additional patrol cars.
ICPO OIC director Sr. Supt. Bartolome Tobias said the letter they have sent to the legislative body is a prerequisite set forth by the national headquarters to give credence to the request of the concerned police unit.
A resolution or an endorsement from the city council gives more weight to the request. The national headquarters has several other requirements such as certification from the chief executive before they will grant the request of each city police office. The city police will furnish the supply and logistics office of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 a copy of the resolution, said Tobias.
In last week's regular session of the city council, the ICPO request was referred to Councilor Erwin Plagata, chair of the committee on police matters. While, Majority Floor Leader Eduardo Peñaredondo encouraged Tobias to directly address his request to Mayor Jerry Treñas. In return, the chief executive will endorse the request to the city council.
The PNP hierarchy has not provided the city police with patrol cars for quite a long time. Of the six patrol cars issued to the city police, only three are now serviceable. The remaining three patrol cars are already beyond the repair stage. Recently, the city government purchased one patrol car for the Mandurriao police station. They are also planning to buy motorcycles to augment the vehicle needs of the city police.
