Sen. Roxas leads fight vs. cha-cha, says ally
ROXAS CITY – Reacting on the news item published in this paper yesterday where one businessman urged Sen. Mar Roxas to show his stand on the cha-cha issue, an ally of the senator said that the Ilonggo senator ever since stands firm against charter change.
Provincial Administrator Zoe Herrera said that Sen. Roxas will lead the fight against the administration's blatant attempt to remain in power beyond 2010 through charter change.
Roxas, president of Liberal Party (LP), in his statement, said that there is clearly a conspiracy in in pushing for cha-cha to perpetuate this administration of corruption, stealing and lack of accountability.
"Hindi naman prayoridad itong Cha-cha. Bakit pa ito pinipilit at sinasaksak sa baga ng mga mahihirap? Ang kailangan nila ay pang-hanabuhay at edukasyon, hindi pamumulitika (Cha-cha isn't a priority. So why is it being shoved down the poor's throat? What they need is jobs and education, not politicking)" Roxas said noting that the government should be focusing on dealing with the global economic slowdown.
The Ilonggo senator said the administration is now shamelessly pushing its advocates, with President Gloria Arroyo's son, Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo, leading the cha-cha campaign in the House of Representatives.
Earlier, Erin Azarraga of Pontevedra urged Sen. Roxas to show his stand on the Cha-cha issue as he accused that many senators conspired with the ouster of Senate President Manny Villar from his post and replaced by Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile.
Herrera, in defense of Sen. Roxas, said that Azarraga is not aware of the senator's opposition to the controversial cha-cha issue.
