CARP woes rank high in Ombudsman cases
From the usual complaint of graft and corrupt practices act, to illegal termination and similar abuses in government, land woes likewise topped the nature of assistance sought before the Office of the Ombudsman in the Viaayas.
As such, Ilonggo farmer-beneficiaries of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) ranked high in the list of complainants.
In the past year alone, assistance was extended on 39 cases that primarily centered on the farmer-beneficiaries’ rights and obligations. Ombudsman investigators in the Iloilo City field office made corresponding referrals to concerned Municipal Agrarian Reform Officers all over Western Visayas. Cases were also correspondingly resolved with the installation of farmer-beneficiaries in their landholdings.
The report formed part of the annual accomplishment of said anti-graft body of the government covering the Western Visayas region.
And this, alongside the year-long “related activities” of the Ombudsman here such as fact-finding investigations, lectures on accountability, local governance and human rights.
The Ombudsman too, at least here in the Visayas scored high on its campaign for cost-cutting in government such as power, water, office supplies and communication use.
Even the compliance of basic government provisions such as lawful use of government vehicles and proper “For Official Use” tagging were also successfully implemented.
Though no specifics were gathered, The News Today (TNT) learned that further up on the Ombudsman Visayas accomplishment are “personnel discipline cases.” These called on validation of numerous complaints on tampering of Daily Time Records, tardiness, neglect of duty, dishonesty, failure to render service and conduct deemed prejudicial to the best interest of the service.
