Iloilo City top cop bares 3 anti-crime strategies
Lower crime incident tops among the priorities of the new Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Director, Police Senior Superintendent Melvin G. Mongcal.
ICPO ended 2008 with 421 cases of index crimes or cases involving the loss of lives and destruction of properties.
“Statistics helps us design our anti-criminality strategies,” Mongcal said adding that he is banking on three major approaches to reduce crime incidents in his area of responsibility.
Mongcal said he ensures the maximum use of PNP personnel in crime prone areas, maximum use of support system, and efficient use of intelligence personnel to achieve his objective.
He disclosed that aside from police personnel in blue uniform, there are also police personnel in “plain clothes” being deployed in places of convergence, like malls, schools, terminals, and churches.
“We are deploying our men strategically to immediately respond to calls for assistance in clustered areas,” Mongcal explained citing as example the practice of Iloilo City Police Station 3 on placing its patrol car at Brgy Sambag, Jaro to act on incidents transpiring along the stretch of the highway from Jaro plaza.
The practice also helps the unit save from its POL (petroleum, oil, and lubricant) allowance.
While the city cops are doubling their efforts to deter crimes, Mongcal reiterates the call for the public to be wary of their safety.
“There is no better crime strategy than our people being conscious of their safety and security,” he quipped.
