Susanito's terracotta
Susanito Sarnate.
Susanito Sarnate hails from La Carlota, the city of beauty and dance, home of the oldest and prominent sugar mills in the province of Negros Occidental.
He is a very good artist and an expert in making terracotta sculptures.
At the age of six he was already fond of forming structures and figures out of clay. Now, he’s known for his gifted potter’s hand. He utilizes materials such as wood, glass, bamboo, tin, and cloth to create detailed images.
In 2001, he won the grand prize during the Pasalamat Festival by showcasing his expertise in terracotta. In 2003, his works were declared as the best entries in Panaad sa Negros.
Sarnate maintains a workshop in his hometown. Last Feb. 28, 2009 he made his residence as a venue for aspiring artists. It's called Kuta.
