Bacolod confident to break 'longest grill' record
BACOLOD CITY – Councilor Alex Paglumotan, executive officer of the recent 1st Bacolod Chicken Inasal Festival, is confident that the activity will land in the list of the Guinness Book of World Records.
Paglumotan said validation is still being made by the Geodetic Engineers Association of the Philippines and the Guinness regarding the city's bid for the longest chicken barbecue grill in the world.
Paglumotan claimed that they were able to set up a barbecue grill measuring 3.9 kilometers surpassing the record set by Sto. Tomas, Pangasinan which is only 3.8 kilometers.
Paglumotan said almost 68,000 heads of chicken were grilled at the North Wing parking area of SM City Bacolod to make the record.
Meanwhile, Mayor Evelio Leonardia expressed gratefulness to the success of the first-ever chicken inasal festival. He also commended Paglomutan for the success of the affair.
"I congratulate Paglumotan for his leadership and at the same time the support and cooperation of the people. Now we can say that we have three major festivals in Bacolod City, namely, the Masskara Festival, the Bacolaodiat and the newly-born Chicken Inasal Festival," Leonardia said.
Leonardia is optimistic that with the holding of longest chicken inasal grill, the city will be famously known as the Chicken Inasal City just like Iloilo which is known as the home of the best Batchoy and Bulacan as home of the best Pancit Malabon.
Paglumotan cited that the inasal festival has again brought Bacolod into the international scene and has become a milestone in the city's history.
Paglumotan also extended credits to the private sector for their support amid his admission that the project requires much preparation.
He also thanked Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson for answering the shortage in chicken inasal when he volunteered himself to procure additional chicken to meet the demand.
