Owning Heritage

“Iloilo is such a rich and noble land.”
In a time when kids imitate Hannah Montana, or adults spend thousands to see the Effeil Tower and be influenced by the beauty of the Western world, a little nudge to remind them of what we have, is timely.
The Iloilo Cultural and Heritage Conservation Council is celebrating the Cultural and Heritage month this May. One of its activities is an exhibit called “Owning Heritage” at SM City Iloilo.
The exhibit features Ilonggo architecture, local cuisines, the heritage of Guimaras and Cebu and the programs of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. The latter has partnered with the ICHCC in this event.

and SM AVP-Operations Danny Chavez.
Dr. Kristin Treñas, head of ICHCC, said, “No culture is superior to the other. Technology has made the world smaller but made us susceptible to Western culture. The younger generation should know that we are Filipino; we have our own place in this world. We have our own forms of entertainment.”
Well said.
