‘We’re ready,’ says DepEd Capiz
ROXAS CITY – The schools in Capiz division are prepared for the opening of classes on June 1, according to the Department of Education (DepEd) here.
Capiz Schools Division Superintendent Eveleth Gamboa revealed that in fact they have started the enrollment of incoming Grade I pupils last May 11 to 15 yet.
Gamboa said that to encourage more parents to enroll their incoming grade I pupils, they have provided free school supplies to those who will enroll on the specified dates.
According to her, they have set aside some P500,000 for the supplies to be given for free to the incoming grade 1 pupils in order to lessen the burden of parents in the purchase of the needed school supplies.
With this initiative, Gamboa is confident that they will improve the school participation rate of school children.
Aside from the free school supplies, they are also imposing the “no-collection” policy of the government upon enrollment, she said.
Gamboa also revealed that the wearing of uniform for students is also optional, so that parents will have no reason not to send their children to school.
Yesterday, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo spearheaded the launching of this year’s nationwide preparedness program at the DepEd central office for the June opening of classes.
Dubbed as “Oplan Balik Eskwela,” the annual campaign was launched in 2005 to ensure the orderly enrollment and opening of classes. (PIA/Jemin B. Guillermo)
