Skimpy clothes, shorts no longer allowed at Capitol
People transacting business at the Iloilo Provincial Capitol should wear “decent” attire, otherwise they will be barred entry from the seat of the provincial government. The new rule contained in Memorandum No. 21 dated May 29, 2009 and signed by Provincial Administrator Manuel Mejorada also applies to provincial government employees, both casual and regular.
“Effective immediately, you are hereby directed to prohibit the wearing of skimpy clothes (blouse with spaghetti straps, mini-skirts) for women and inappropriate attire for men (sleeveless shirt, shorts) entering the Capitol premises,” reads the memorandum issued to the security guards and the various department heads.
Yesterday, a woman visitor wearing sleeveless shirt was prohibited by the guards from entering the Capitol. She was forced to borrow a blazer from a lady provincial government employee so she could enter.
One male visitor wearing shorts, on the other hand, was allowed entry by the guard after explaining that he would just bring something in the cafeteria and would immediately go out.
Mejorada, in his memorandum, said implementing the dress code for the Capitol “is necessary to promote an atmosphere of decency and dignity inside the Capitol.”
It was learned that regular employees of the provincial government are required to wear uniform from Monday to Thursday while Friday is designated as “wash day” wherein they could wear casual dresses.
