Miag-ao Holds GST++ Seminar
The Local Government Unit of Miag-ao conducted a 3-day Gender Sensitivity Training++ (GST++) last July 1-3, 2009 at the Noble Beach Resort, Miag-ao, Iloilo. This is their first activity as one of the pilot beneficiary LGUs of the Gender-Responsive Economic Action for the Transformation (GREAT) of Women Project of the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW). It is the aim of the GREAT Women Project to create an enabling environment to promote the economic empowerment of women to contribute to the economic development of the locality.
A total of 53 participants led by Mayor Julieta Noble Flores with SB Members, municipal officials, department heads and staff, academicians, police officers, representatives of women’s groups and NGOs joined the activity. Through the training, the participants have acquired the knowledge and skills to be able to integrate Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) in the Local Economic Development (LED) programs, policies and activities of Miag-ao LGU.
Local gender experts namely Ms. Fe Salcedo, currently a Consultant of GTZ & LGSPA, Ms. Estela Paredes, Ms. Cynthia Lumampao, both from NEDA and Ms. Lorena Yunque, Provincial Director of TESDA provided lectures and facilitated the workshops. The GREAT Women Project was presented by Ms Mel Silva, Project Component 3 Consultant.
Three other pilot LGUs of the GREAT Women Project - Pavia LGU, Badiangan LGU and Iloilo Provincial Government will conduct the same training in the succeeding weeks. The GREAT Women Project is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
