Mediamen will forever be grateful to Cory
The legacy of Press Freedom Pres. Corazon Aquino bequeathed to the Filipino people is an eternal flame that will linger forever in the hearts of Filipino journalists and the Filipino people. During the 20 years of Ferdinand Marcos’ regime, press freedom was curtailed and the Filipinos were blinded by many reported anomalies, killings and all sorts of evil happenings that were not known to the world. The return of democracy was very essential.
Like her husband Ninoy, Cory would have been shot also had it not been for the Divine guidance God has given her. She survived the seven coup attempts and other assassination plots which the enemies of democracy would like to impose in the Philippines.
Lady Cory was determined to give her precious life for the sake of the Filipinos she and her husband Ninoy loved so much.
Cory and Doy Laurel were in Cebu City campaigning for the Presidency when the good news came that the people stormed Malacañang and Pres. Marcos left for Hawaii through the help of an American pilot. EDSA people composed of religious sisters and priests and pastors, church leaders and women persuaded the tank commanders of Marcos to give up by giving them flowers and food. Through the intervention of the unseen hand from above, the soldiers withdrew their tanks and thousands of people shouting against dictator Marcos were spared. Thanks to the understanding of the Filipino soldiers that they saved thousands of lives and finally democracy was restored in the country.
Life at the present time when soldiers are reportedly loyal to GMA and despite the series of EDSA power shown by the people when Cory was alive, still GMA would not quit. Eventually, when full democracy is again restored in the country, people will remember Cory. Cory’s hundred and one contributions to democracy and the Filipino people will long be remembered by the Filipino people and the world. Tita Cory your good deeds will forever live in the hearts of the media people and country.
