RATIONAL INSANITY
When airheads bloat even more
I am writing this week’s column as a reaction to the blatant disrespect of the Wowowee talk show host for the sentiments of one nation. I won’t name him here, because naming him would just give him additional exposure and he does not deserve that, in fact, he does not deserve to have his name among the household names of every Filipino because he is dirt, ‘lower than pond scum’ even, as one character from ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ would say. Personally, I don’t get it – ‘nagsasaya kami dito’ ? For Pete’s sake, even the word ‘nagsasaya’ burns like acid on my bones at a time when the country is mourning the loss of a great woman, whose nail clippings are even more valuable and respected than the wealth of this talk show host put together! Is this what happens when you can buy your own yacht and almost control the television network you work in because of the sponsors that you bring in? If such is the case, then I would never want to be popular or rich, especially if this would mean the loss of my values (values that don’t seem to exist in the kukote of this talk show host who thinks his ‘giling’ is causing a nationwide fever when in fact what he is doing is underestimating the integrity of the Filipino).
I would like to use my precious column space this week to enjoin all Filipinos who love Tita Cory so much and who understand the worth of her contributions to the joy or ‘saya’ that we are enjoying now to boycott this talk show host. I would even want to go as far as asking the public to boycott the products featured in this show so that this dingbat host would know the real meaning of People Power. Doesn’t he know that the reason why he is rich is because he has been enjoying the patronage of sponsors who, aside from their vested interests of being able to sell their products, are also, even in their small little way, concerned of the state of our democracy? This basically means that whatever riches this host has amassed is not really because of him but because of the sincere desire of others to alleviate the plight of the Filipinos, in which case, showing disrespect to the icon of democracy is like showing blatant disregard for the millions of Filipinos who he, as he claims on his own, helps. It would seem that the show has helped Filipinos, but what it has done actually was to fan the embers of indolence and fatalism; now, Filipinos who go to the show and join the games have developed a false sense of hope within themselves, something Tita Cory would never have wanted Filipinos to develop. On a lighter note, I believe ‘host’ would not be the appropriate word for this person, because in biology, that means that you are getting something from an organism without harming an organism, I believe ‘parasite’ would be a better term. He feeds on the despair of the Filipinos and uses this to create a false sense of security in the show; a bubble that when popped, will reveal the horror of pride, corroding values, and materialism.
At this point, I would also like to implore the management of ABS-CBN to also teach this host (parasite) a lesson, if not, totally get him off the air because he has disgraced the tenets and ideals of the network that would not even exist today if not for the efforts of Tita Cory. We don’t want to see the face of the little monster again. The show does not need him to be successful, besides, the air in his head has made it seem like he owns the network and that he does not respect the management anymore; is he really that rich that he thinks he can buy everyone’s soul? Well, I don’t really care then if he is filthy rich, I still feel that I am more privileged than this humbug vulture because at least I can still sympathize with the nation at a time of great sorrow. I am sure he will resurface again and look like an innocent duck about to get its head chopped off – in fact, he already issued an alligator apology last week in the news – I don’t but it. If he really is truly sincere in his apology, he should step down from the show and just enjoy the riches that he has amassed so far, if in fact, it is not the material gain that he is after, but the welfare of his fellowman.
To all of you, my readers, let us stand for the values that Tita Cory has nurtured in all Filipinos, the values of humility, service, patience, piety, and love. Let us be like her in our struggle for change and reform; let us speak out when we feel that our dignity is being trampled upon; surely, you are not one among those gagged by ‘giling’ or whatever ruckus and fanfare the show uses to conceal its green-eyed, vested interests.
Be rational; be insane… every once in a while! TTFN!
I love you all! Byers!
