EU okays health investment plan for Panay
KALIBO, Aklan — The European Union has approved the Provincial Investment Plan for Health (PIPH) of the four provinces of Panay, including the Guimaras province.
Aklan Gov. Carlito Marquez said for the province the EU approved a P1.4-billion fund for health programs to be implemented until 2013.
The EU funding will be coursed through the Department of Health (DoH).
“We will be implementing it for the upgrading of hospital services. We will also be using it to finance other health programs on anti-tuberculosis, facilities and health care for mothers and children and their immunization among others,” Marquez said.
Under the EU program, the DoH, the Aklan provincial and the local government units should allocate a counterpart fund.
“At least P80 million will be appropriated by the DoH while we also have to seek solicitation for donors wherein we are tasked to generate P672 million until 2013,” Marquez said.
Bulk of the funding, or about P423.5 million will go to the upgrading of health facilities. (PNA)
