7-9-7 duty shift of cops aims to deter crimes
Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 director Chief Superintendent Isagani R. Cuevas remains positive that his innovation of duty shift for police personnel will bring down the crime rates in the region.
Cuevas advocates the 7-9-7 duty shift scheme of police personnel to ensure enough number of cops to man the police station and render police assistance.
“We have to instill in our personnel that their previous practice will never do good,” Cuevas said referring to “one-day duty, two-day off” duty shift and other duty shift scheme similar to it.
Under the 7-9-7 duty scheme, the personnel in a police station are divided into three teams. Team A reports to duty from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Team B reports from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m; Team C reports from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. They will be rotated every week. Each personnel shall have a day off once weekly. In this scheme, all numbers 1 in Teams A, B and C will have their break on Monday. The numbers 2 on Tuesday and so forth.
Cuevas cited many accomplishments to the credit of the new duty shift scheme, like the foiled bank heist in Hinigaran, Negros Occidental and the solving of several robbery incidents in Iloilo Province.
“Under my watch, I will not allow our personnel to take lightly their work. Being a police officer is so taxing but we cannot do otherwise, we have to do our job well,” the region’s top cop stressed.
Cuevas and his staff at the Regional Headquarters regularly conduct surprise inspection at all police units and stations to ensure that 7-9-7 duty shift scheme is being adhered to. (POIII Francisco B. Lindero Jr.)
