NARS 2nd batch employs 85 nurses in Capiz
ROXAS CITY – Eighty five unemployed but registered nurses were deployed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) – Provincial Office provincewide for the second batch of the Nurses Assigned in Rural Service (NARS) program which commenced last October.
“The 85 beneficiaries of the program were equally divided for the province’s 16 towns and city,” stressed DOLE – Capiz Provincial Director Ricardo Monegro.
He added that the first batch of the program which covered the period April to September 2009 employed 55 nurses in the province.
NARS is a training-cum employment scheme wherein the hired nurses would be deployed to their hometowns in rural areas to undergo six-month training in providing public health services and in performing clinical functions under the guidance of participating nearby hospitals and other medical facilities.
President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo launched the collaborative undertaking of the DOLE, the Department of Health (DOH), and the Professional Regulations Commission’s Board of Nursing (PRC-BON) during the Multi-Sectoral Summit on “Joining Hands Against the Global Crisis” held in Malacanan Palace.
DOLE Secretary Marianito Roque said that the applicants must be not over 35 years old, resident of the identified municipalities, willing to serve their hometowns and physically and mentally fit.
Applicants must also have valid nurse license issued by the PRC and no nursing–related practice for 1 to 3 years to qualify for the program.
While on training, the nurses would receive a minimum stipend/allowance of P8,000.00 per month. (PIA/A.Lumaque)
