Cabral vows support to San Isidro relocatees
Outgoing Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Esperanza Cabral assured the occupants of the San Isidro, Jaro relocation site of her support even after she occupies a different cabinet position.
Cabral who was recently in Iloilo City for the turn-over of 100 row housing units to the beneficiaries pledged the construction of a health center and installation of Botika ng Barangay in San Isidro.
She vowed to fulfill her pledge to the people for such projects are deemed important in the relocation site aside from the housing units provided to them by the government.
The P35 million housing project at the San Isidro relocation site was made possible with Cabral as the DSWD secretary. Moved with pity by the typhoon victims, she hastened the construction of 500 housing units with the Habitat for Humanity as the implementer. Of the 500 housing units, only 200 units are finished and awarded to the beneficiaries.
Cabral said providing decent housing is one of the government’s concerns in order to uplift the lives of the Filipino people. It is an indication of the country’s development and progress.
Every beneficiary of the housing project becomes a symbol of the people’s hope for a better life with the assistance of the government. There should be a combined effort from the beneficiaries themselves and the government, said Cabral.
Cabral said a house is not only a concrete symbol of hope and dignity but of an important tradition in the community. Aside from the government sector, several non-government organizations also made their shares in giving shelter to the people whose houses were destroyed by Typhoon Frank.
The secretary is also hoping to hear stories of hope and achievement in the future from the good seeds sown by the government at the relocation site.
