MIWD privatization to ease water woes – Treñas
The privatization of the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) will eventually ease the water woes among local residents, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas.
He said that privatizing the water district will be part of his agenda once he takes oath as congressman on June 30.
Treñas, who is set to be the next congressman of the lone district of Iloilo City, said that he will help hasten the privatization of MIWD so that the water needs of the city, including its businesses, will be solved.
MIWD will continue its privatization plans with the help of the World Bank (WB), said the mayor. This will make sure that the water woes affecting the barangays and businesses will be prioritized, especially that the WB is lending its assistance.
The privatization will help MIWD provide added water distribution lines and improve its services too.
MIWD currently has 30,000 distribution lines all over the city, including Pavia and Maasin. But the projected water distribution lines for all the residents in the city aggregate 100,000.
Meantime, the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) is currently finishing its feasibility study for the rehabilitation of the Jalaur River system. If the project is implemented, MIWD will also benefit since the water supply will definitely double, said Treñas. (PNA)
