Flag raising, wreath laying to mark I-Day in Iloilo City
The city of Iloilo will join the rest of the country in celebrating the 112th Independence Day on Saturday, June 12, with activities to be highlighted among others by flag-raising and wreath laying ceremonies.
Iloilo City Supervising Administrative Officer Jo Agudo said the ceremonies will be held at 7:00 o’ clock in the morning at the Plaza Libertad.
Congressman-elect and incumbent Mayor Jerry Treñas is expected to give the message during the event which will be attended by the city government officials and employees, barangay officials and schools.
Meanwhile, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will lead the national celebration which will be held at the Luneta Park in Manila.
According to a Malacañang report, President Arroyo is expected at the flag-raising rites at 7 a.m. in front of the Rizal Monument, then at 4 p.m. at the Luneta to deliver her Independence Day message and view from the Quirino Grandstand the traditional civic-military parade.
The civic-military parade will have floats featuring President Arroyo’s achievements under her Ten-Point Agenda called “Beat the Odds”.
“Beat the Odds” stands for: balance budget, education for all, automated elections, transportation and infrastructure, terminating hostilities in all fronts, healing the wounds of EDSA, electricity and water for all, opportunities for livelihood, decongestion of Metro Manila, and developing Subic and Clark.
“KALAYAAN: Tagumpay ng Bayan” is the theme of this year’s celebration. (PIA)
