Town mayor slaps libel raps against village chief
What could be wrong with expressing one’s sentiment?
Indeed, there is none unless it goes beyond assassinating one’s character, said Mayor Alex Centena of Calinog, Iloilo.
Centena personally filed a libel case Monday afternoon against Brgy. Capt. Narciso Jison of Lampaya, Calinog town before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecution Office.
Centena, who was re-elected anew for the post, claimed that the case stemmed from the malicious streamer hanged within Jinson’s premises.
“Ibutang niya gid nga kawatan ako. Sang una, nagadrama lang siya nga lain lang nga ngalan ang ibutang niya pero sang ulihi ni, iba na gid,” Centena said.
The streamer reads: “Kawatan ka, ginprinda mo ang banwa sing P23 million. Kawatan ka sang refinery.”
Members of the National Bureau of Investigatin (NBI) arrested Jison last June 4.
It was gathered that Jison allegedly started hanging the “libelous” streamer last May 13, 2010, several days after the elections.
It was gathered that the respondent also run as Sangguniang Bayan member under Centena’s political opponent, Salvador Divinagracia.
However, he lost.
Centena claimed that Jison even filed his candidacy for the country’s presidency in the past presidential poll but was disqualified for being a nuisance candidate.
Presently, Jison is on temporary liberty after posting a bail even before a case was filed against him.
The respondent also sought help from the Commission on Human Rights.
