JBLFMU inks partnership with China’s DMU
John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) has once again proven to be a leading maritime institution in the country after it forged a partnership agreement with China’s leading maritime university, the Dalian Maritime University (DMU).
DMU officials led by its President Dr. Wang Zuwen along with some of their students arrived in Iloilo City on board the training ship Yukun last Saturday at the Iloilo International Port in Loboc, La Paz.
They were welcomed by JBLFMU officials led by Dr. Mary Lou Lacson-Arcelo, chair of Board of Trustees, Dr. Ronald Raymond Sebastian, Chief Executive Officer, and Dr. Ralph Pador, Administrator.
Incoming City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog also joined in welcoming the Chinese guests after which JBLFMU officials and students as well as other guests were given a tour of the training vessel.
Arcelo expressed gratefulness that DMU made JBLFMU as its partner. She said it simply means that JBLFMU is recognized by other maritime institutions in the different parts of the world.
Arcelo said the partnership would benefit JBLFMU students as it would result to exchange of ideas and practices with China’s top maritime institution.
DMU is a key maritime institution under the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China which is recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
Just like JBLFMU, DMU is also a member of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU).
DMU has two ocean-going training vessels, the Yulong and Yukun mainly used for training of officers and also serve as research and experiment base for scientific studies.
