Mabilog gives MIWD execs chance to improve services
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he is giving the management and board of directors of the Metro Iloilo Water District a chance to settle their internal conflict and improve their water services.
Yesterday, Mabilog met with the MIWD management represented by general manager Le Jayme Jalbuena and the board headed by chairman Celso Javelosa. Both officials agreed to set aside their internal problems and focus on the immediate solution to the water crisis in the city.
As agreed, the management and the board will deliver 62,000 cubic meters of water to the concessionaires. Of the said volume, 42,000 cubic meters of water will come from the MIWD siltation and the remaining 20,000 cubic meters, from the winning bidder of water delivery.
“Let them resolve the controversy by themselves. The most important to us is the sufficient water service that they could deliver to the people in this city,” Mabilog said.
He added that if after a year, there is still no solution to the water crisis, privatization may be discussed.
On his first day in office last week, Mabilog dared both the MIWD management and board to resolve the water crisis until the end of July. If not, Mabilog said he will personally lead the protest in front of MIWD office calling the officials to resign from their posts.
