OWWA 6 needs 72 scholars
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration 6 is still accepting applications for its OFW Dependent Scholarship Program for the school year 2010-2011, the Philippine Information Agency said.
Seventy-two slots have been allotted for Western Visayas under the program or 12 scholars for each of the six provinces in the region.
Overseas Workers Welfare Officer III Noel Chavez said the OFWDSP is part of the agency’s continuing thrust to expand its educational scholarship program to make it more accessible to poor but deserving dependents of overseas Filipino workers.
The OFWDSP is open to dependents of OFWs who receive a monthly salary of not more than $400.
Qualified OFW dependents are those who are single and not more than 21 years old, at the time of the application; high school graduate or about to graduate from high school, or already enrolled in college; physically, mentally and morally fit; and must pass the qualifying or entrance examination conducted by an OWWA-partner state college/university or any Commission on Higher Education- recognized and accredited educational institution.
Successful applicants are entitled to benefits such as financial assistance of P20,000 a year or P10,000 each semester, covering tuition fees and other academic related expenses which shall be released on a semestral basis and a group of health and accident insurance coverage of P100,000 per scholar.
The program requires scholars or grantees to enroll in any four-year or five-year baccalaureate course or associate course leading to a baccalaureate degree or associate degree in a state college or university or any CHED-recognized or accredited educational institution.
