Retained casual employees should be efficient: Mabilog
The 1,400 casual employees of the Iloilo city government can keep their jobs, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has announced, but he said he does not want to see them just sitting and doing nothing.
“We will retain them, but I want efficiency in each and every individual performance of the casuals and job hires,” the mayor said during the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, according to a City Hall press release.
Mabilog said the casual employees and job hires are important because they augment the work of regular personnel for them to do their work efficiently.
He also ordered the regular employees not to depend entirely on their casual employees.
The mayor said he also doesn’t want the regular workers to be negligent of their responsibilities.
IT WORKERS NEEDED
Meanwhile, Mabilog said the city government will also hire IT-trained personnel to work as encoders and computer operators either on job-hire and casual basis.
The backlog of records in various city offices need to be encoded for easy access during documents processing, the mayor said.
Mabilog also directed the Human Resource Management Office to provide free computer lessons to employees, and IT trainings for casual workers to maximize the use of computer technology and make transactions faster and convenient at the City Hall.
The World Bank had already cited the city’s successful performance in its computerized taxation system which generated significant improvement on its revenue collection.
The World Bank-initiated computerization project has transformed the City Treasurer’s and Assessor’s offices to an effective and efficient service delivery provider resulting to successful tax collections.
The Institute of Solidarity in Asia also affirmed that the City Hall has been able to increase its income through improved tax collections and streamlined business registration processes.
