The GK Fun Run
Gawad Kalinga Iloilo, the trailblazing institution with its passionate vision and mission of ending poverty by 2024, held its first fun run last July 11, 2010. It was an eight-kilometer fun run from Freedom Grandstand to Boardwalk.
The running pack was bannered by GK Board National Mari Oquinena and GK Advisor Boy Montelibano, GK officers, members and volunteers as well as popular personalities like Rep. Jerry Trenas, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III, Iloilo Province’s first lady Cosette Defensor, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias and Mayor Juancho Alvarez of Ajuy. Representatives from the business sector, the academe, the students, non-government organizations and GK beneficiaries, joined. There were more than 1,000 participants in this first ever fun run by GK.
The fun run’s theme was “Step Up and Get Movin’!. It was organized to spread awareness on the GK movement in Iloilo as well as generate funds to help build more communities for the poorest of the poor in the Province of Iloilo. It aimed to gather more volunteers as well.
GK envisions itself as an organization that builds communities that are empowered by people with faith and heroism. It is driven by a culture of caring and sharing, with the aim of eradicating poverty and restoring human dignity.
