ICPO tightens security for Christmas holidays
The Iloilo City Police Office will tighten its security measures in preparation for the long December holidays.
Senior Supt. Dennis Basngi, city police director, said the police force will double its visibility and patrol operations in December especially during the long vacation.
The preparation will also ensure the safety of students and workers arriving from Manila and other provinces and of Filipinos from abroad, he said.
Basngi said he has instructed the police to monitor public places such as shopping malls, plazas and main city streets especially at night.
The police will continue to conduct checkpoint operations especially in the city’s main entry and exit roads and in seaports and highways.
Criminals on the roads, including snatchers and hold-uppers, abound if the highways are left unpatrolled, Basngi said.
He added that all desk officers will be required to go on foot duty in malls and other public areas in the afternoon.
‘Be Alert’
Moreover, Basngi also reminded the public to always watch their valuables while shopping, especially in holiday sales and when going to the bank and public markets.
These crowded places are also the favorite destinations of pickpockets and other criminals, he said.
Basngi also urged the public to be vigilant of suspicious-looking persons in their community and report their presence to the nearest police stations.
Many homes become victims of holiday robberies when families go on vacation, he added.*PNA
