Iloilo prov’l govt to donate P400,000 for Dinagyang
The Iloilo provincial government is providing an assistance of P400,000 for the holding of Dinagyang Festival in January.
Provincial Tourism Officer Gilbert Marin said that Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. has already approved the amount requested by the Dinagyang Festival Committee, which is higher compared to last year’s donation of the provincial government.
Marin said the provincial government is donating an amount yearly to support the tourism activities of the Dinagyang Festival.
Many foreign and domestic tourists come to Iloilo City and the province to witness the famous event.
Aside from the funding support, the provincial government will also put up a judging area in front of the old Capitol building.
Donation For GK
Meanwhile, Marin is campaigning for donations of used clothing for the beneficiaries of the Gawad Kalinga (GK) in the province.
The campaign is in support to the project of the governor’s wife, Cossette Defensor, who is the GK adviser in Iloilo.
In Iloilo, nine GK villages have been put up to benefit indigent families, most of whom are victims of Typhoon Frank in June 2008.
The GK villages are in the towns of Janiuay, Concepcion, Ajuy and Pototan. There are also three GK projects in Iloilo City.
Marin said those who want to donate used clothing can bring the items to the Provincial Tourism Office at the old Iloilo capitol building.
The donations will be given to the beneficiaries on December 15 during the awarding of the GK Christmas Park contest.*PNA
