LGUs enjoined to mark Rizal Day
The Department of Interior and Local government has urged all local government units nationwide to hold commemorative activities in line with the observance of the 114th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal on December 30.
By authority of Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, Undersecretary for Local Government Austere Panadero issued a memorandum enjoining all local chief executives to conduct simple yet fitting commemorative activities in their respective localities.
Some of the suggested activities are flag-raising and wreath laying ceremonies and attendance in Rizal Day Annual Lectures to be conducted in three proposed sites. These sites include Rizal Shrine, Fort Santiago, Manila; Rizal Shrine Calamba City, Laguna; and Rizal Shrine, Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte.
Panadero also requested all local chief executives, in collaboration with non-government organizations and people’s organizations, to display the Philippine Flag until December 30 at their respective Provincial Capitol, City, Municipal or Barangay Halls.
“Rizal: Haligi Ng Bayan,” is the theme of the 114th anniversary of the martyrdom of Rizal, the country’s national hero.
Regional directors of DILG all over the country were also directed to conduct immediate and widest dissemination of the circular in their jurisdictions.
Earlier, Malacanang retained Proclamation No. 1841 issued by the past administration declaring December 27, which is the nearest Monday to Rizal Day on December 30, as regular holiday, and the historic event as a working day nationwide.*PIA
