The News Today Profile
The News Today was born out of the vision of its founders to provide an alternative newspaper in Western Visayas. It is the brainchild of Mr. Rosendo G. Mejica II, owner of the biggest and oldest printing press in the region, the Makinaugalingon Press, as inspired by the legacy left by his grandfather Don Rosendo Mejica who founded the first Hiligaynon newspaper during the American period, Ang Makinaugalingon.
Together with business partners Christopher Y. Montero and Dr. Florentino P. Alerta II, Mr. Mejica envisioned a local newspaper that is different from the existing ones in terms of content and appearance.
And it was on September 18, 2000 when The News Today first hit the newsstands that his dream was realized. Coming out once a week, its full colored front and back and centerspread pages as well as quality content attracted readers from all walks of life.
In July 2003, Marichel Teves-Magalona joined the newspaper as Marketing Director and member of the Board — sharing her vision and own brand of marketing savvy to the The News Today team.
In April 2004, The News Today turned into a bi-weekly newspaper, answering the Ilonggo readers’ hunger for a quality newspaper. It has also set innovations in the local newspaper industry by launching its on-line edition — www.thenewstoday.info – in January 2005, thereby effectively reaching Ilonggos wherever they maybe. And, in September of this year, as it celebrated its 5th year in the industry, the ever-developing newspaper turned tri-weekly to better serve its growing followers.
For TNT, innovations and developments do not end here. There are still a lot of plans for TNT in the future. All these for TNT’s loyal supporters. Indeed, The News Today is the most dynamic newspaper in the region today.
